Hi!! Tony a.k.a. Motley here. https://csdb.dk/scener/?id=758
Due to a long time depression I got introduced to the music genre called Retrowave and its other genres as synthwave , outrun music(?), darkwave, dreamwave. This form of music that is based on the synth music styles of the late 80’s and beginning of 90’s gave me such a good vibe, a good feeling, even in dark times. So. I watched all these videos on youtube and got inspired. My vision and dream now is to make a small demo with retrowave/synthwave as a theme. The feel, the vibe and the flow.
That’s why I decided to contact you all, because you all are masters in your fields, some even in more than one field.
For me this is a passion project. This project for me is not about getting any fame or credit. I want to do this because of my love of the C64 and the hard artistic art behind it. Whatever form it may take. From Graphics, Music to Coding. I haven’t myself produced anything on the C64 for ages and forgotten to code. So I’m relying on you people to get this passion project out in to the world. If it succeeds well I’m hoping people will get a good feeling about it when they see it/experience it. So my idea is to create small groups for each part. Coder, Graphician, Musican + who else wants to participate.
This document is a work in progress. More will follow.
Current confirmed people connected with this project are:
CRT, Sander, Proton, Jammer, Jailbird, Zardax, Sidwave(Rambones), Danko, The Hobbit, Barfly, Iopop, Alfatech, Flaxo, Smasher, Joe.
Krill has given us his blessings to use his fastloader for the project without breaking the GPLv3 rules.
People interested can contact me on facebook. https://www.facebook.com/tony.villanen/
With regards,
Tony
Intro.
I just got this weird idea for a intro. You all have probably heard about NUMBER STATIONS? Go to youtube and check. What if…. we would have a intro that is about the weird fucked up voice tracks they ran on Number Stations? Spooky as fuck. Spy stuff.
Code: Iopop
Music: Jammer
Part 1.
A vector landscape looper.
Code: Proton
Music: Zardax
The vector landscape part.
The Intermission - "PAUSE LOADER" the Elevtor music
This funny idea came from me having a good video conference with Zardax. The idea of having elevator music park while transitioning to the next part. 🙂
The image has to be remade though as its’ just a conversion. I did few animated details to it. The Bossanova song will be made Zardax.
Part 2.
So been experimenting little. No, I dont want the layers go like that. I was thinking of a simulated 2D layer in 3D space kind of thing. So it looks like you are “flying over it”
The Flower idea can go to part 3.
?OUT OF IDEAS ERROR IN 10
READY.
Electric posted this PETSCII animation GIF on facebook yesterday. I have messaged him about it to ask if he has it in some nice format and also that I want to include a more “hotted” version of it where the layers actually start moving around, almost giving this tunnel style of effect. Full screen, but fullborders? Dunno. 🙂
I hope you can see it through this link .
Electric PETSCII Flower Zoomer
Notice: I just had a little chat with Electric. He send me his original gif files for this thing. its not a petscii but a 32 x 32 pixel animation.
He zipped it for me and send it. He also mentioned that he has a lot of unreleased stuff still.
But now after thinking awhile, I think that effect can be instead of used on the Part 3 as a background effect that comes sometimes.
Part 3. THE SANDER PROJECT
Uknown Sander project so far.
Code: Alfatech
Music: Danko
GFX/Concept: Sander
Part 4. THE ARCADE HOMAGE
This part is a homage to old arcade games such as Space Invaders, Centipede, Asteroids etc etc. Represented with 4×4 pixel object pixels. With movement and possible simulated motion blur for all fast movements. Fast movements can easily be used as transitions between the different games if an acceptable simulation of the motion blur can be achieved.
I did only this one proof of concept and go it OK’ed by CRT as plausable. For my help I have recruited a non-scener with a burning interest for pixelating, professional graphics artist to share the pixel work with this part.
So far musical part has not assigned. Still waiting for tunes from Sidwave to see what fits.
Code: CRT
GFX: MOTLEY & FLAXO
Part 5. THE END & CREDITS SCENE-IDEA.
Here is a little The End Par-idea I’ve been playing around with. It’s just an idea made in After Effects and used a web c64 gfx converter to convert some graphics. Also it has the beginnings of a new Retrowave song Jammer is working on. The real graphics need to be polised by a lot. Also a scroller wouldn’t hurt.
– The casette is going to rotate as a textured 3D object but prerendered, showing group greets in projectet to the rotating casett as hires fonts for a cleaner read..
Project Progress:
CRT is looking into the rotation animation + Greeting group name part in vector.
Jailbird is working on a remake of the background pic as the one below is just a direct conversation of the original.
Jammer just sent me a updated work in progress version of the tune , now it has a tasty intro part in it as well.
Motley, In talks with CRT about the rotation rendering.
Code: CRT
Music: Jammer
GFX: Jailbird, Motley, CRT
The latest work in progress version of Jammers tune for this Part 3.
After the casette part a end credits part is loaded and it could look something like this:
With alternative more synthwave:i style backgund image, but just temporary to see how it looks and feels like.
